The Journalism Education Association's Journalist of the Year contest recognizes the strongest scholastic journalism portfolio in the country. State-level winners advance to the national round, judged and announced at the Spring JEA/NSPA National High School Journalism Convention. The national winner receives the $4,000 Sister Rita Jeanne Abicht Scholarship, and up to five national finalists each receive $1,200, paid directly to the student's college or university.
