Norfolk Southern Thoroughbred Scholars

Norfolk Southern awards about 100 Thoroughbred Scholars each year to children of its U.S. employees — most slots go to craft employees' children, with a handful reserved for field management and headquarters staff. Recipients get $2,500 for the first year, renewable for up to three more years (up to $10,000 total) at any accredited two- or four-year school, including vocational-technical programs. Applicants submit a transcript, a short statement of goals, and one letter of recommendation, and must keep a 2.0 GPA to renew.
