Connecticut's statewide PTA unit, Nutmeg (NSPTA), gives out three awards each year to graduating seniors at Connecticut high schools with an active PTA or PTSA: the Carol P. Duggan Nutmeg PTA Scholarship, the Joseph Pearson Scholarship (funded by a 1998 bequest from longtime board member and career-education activist Joseph Pearson), and the Janet E. Petkus Grant, funded by Carol Duggan's family. NSPTA's endowment prioritizes students pursuing careers that serve children and families. Each high school's PTA/PTSA can put forward only one applicant. Award amounts change from year to year based on how much the endowment has raised.
