The 1693 Scholars Program is William & Mary's most prestigious scholarship, giving a small cohort of incoming first-years a four-year award that covers Virginia tuition, fees, room, and board (a partial award for out-of-state students) plus a $6,000 research or project stipend. Scholars also get personal faculty mentoring, priority course registration, and a residential community at Murray House. Every first-year applicant is automatically reviewed; roughly 200 semifinalists submit an essay and video, and about nine Scholars are chosen each year after virtual interviews and an on-campus finalist weekend.
DemographicsRequires admission to William & Mary; automatic consideration for every first-year applicant, with semifinalists advancing through an essay, video, and interview process — no separate scholarship application.
In-state: tuition, fees, room, and board for four years; out-of-state: a partial award. All Scholars also receive a $6,000 research/project stipend.
