American University's Presidential Scholarship is its top automatic merit award, reserved for incoming first-year students who rank in the top 10 to 15 percent of AU's admitted class. Awards range from $6,000 to $35,000 a year, with the exact amount set by the Admissions Committee based on each applicant's academic record. No separate scholarship application is needed — every admitted student is automatically considered, and recipients are notified at the time of admission. The award renews for up to eight semesters as long as a student stays enrolled full-time and meets AU's Satisfactory Academic Progress standards.
