The VFW's Scout of the Year program recognizes scouts nationally who have earned the Eagle Scout Award, Girl Scout Gold Award, Venturing Summit Award, or Sea Scout Quartermaster Award and shown exemplary citizenship in school, scouting, and the community. Applicants must be registered, active unit members with no minimum age; the maximum age is 18, and a scout who turns 18 during the nomination year stays eligible as long as they are still in high school at the submission deadline. Entries -- a completed VFW Scouting Scholarship form, a resume of high school activities, a scouting record, a community service record, and letters of recommendation -- go to a local VFW Post by March 1, then advance to the state Department for judging by April 1, with winning entries forwarded to VFW National Headquarters by May 1.
DemographicsOpen to registered, active members of a Boy Scout Troop, Girl Scout Troop, Venturing Crew, or Sea Scout Ship who hold the Eagle Scout, Girl Scout Gold, Venture Summit, or Sea Scout Quartermaster award.
The VFW's published rules do not list a fixed scholarship dollar amount; ask your local Post's Scouting chairman for current award levels.
