The Hays Memorial Scholarship is Hendrix College's top academic award, covering tuition, a standard double-occupancy room, an unlimited board plan, and the student activity fee for four years -- increasing in value if tuition rises. About four incoming first-year students receive it each year, chosen through an essay and a group-discussion interview scored independently by multiple reviewers. To be considered, applicants need at least a 3.6 GPA in college-preparatory coursework and a 32 ACT or 1410 SAT, must apply for admission by November 15, and submit the scholarship materials by February 1; alumni may also nominate candidates. It renews for up to three additional years for recipients who maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA and keep the housing/meal-plan options the award covers. Candidates who interview strongly but don't win a Hays award may instead be named a Provost Scholar, which adds $5,000 to their existing merit scholarship.
DemographicsRequires admission to Hendrix College; selected through a separate Hays Memorial Scholarship process (essay plus a group discussion interview) -- alumni may also nominate candidates.
