Shocker Promise pays whatever tuition and required fees (up to 15 credit hours per semester) are left over after other financial aid is applied, so an eligible student can attend Wichita State without out-of-pocket tuition costs. Students are automatically considered when they're admitted to WSU as a graduating Kansas high school senior and complete the FAFSA by April 1 -- there's no separate scholarship application. Eligibility requires Kansas residency, U.S. citizenship or eligible noncitizen status, Pell Grant eligibility, annual family income and assets of $60,000 or less, a Student Aid Index of 7,395 or less, and at least a 2.5 unweighted high school GPA. The award renews for up to four years (eight fall and spring semesters) while a student stays enrolled full-time in a bachelor's degree program, and Kansas residents living outside Sedgwick County (home to Wichita) can also qualify for up to $6,000 in additional first-year on-campus housing assistance.
