The Illinois State Society DAR gives out up to eight scholarships a year to graduating Illinois high school seniors: seven go one per DAR district to students headed to an Illinois college or university, and one, the General Henry Dearborn American History Scholarship, goes statewide to a student planning to major in American history. Every applicant needs a sponsorship letter from a local Illinois DAR chapter, but does not need to be a DAR member. Applicants must complete a Financial Need Form (not required for the Dearborn award), a certified transcript, two letters of recommendation from non-relatives, and a personal biography under 400 words.
DemographicsRequires a sponsorship/endorsement letter from an Illinois DAR chapter; DAR membership itself is not required to apply.
Award amount is set by each sponsoring DAR chapter/district and is not published statewide.
