The National Economics Challenge is a team quiz-bowl-style competition in micro- and macroeconomics run by the Council for Economic Education. About 10,000 students compete annually in two divisions: David Ricardo for first-time competitors who have taken no more than one economics course, and Adam Smith for students with AP, IB, honors, or prior NEC experience. State winners advance through a First Round National Challenge and National Semi-Finals to the National Finals, where the top four teams win cash prizes.
