The James B. Duke Scholarship is Furman University's most prestigious merit award, funded through the university's historic Duke Endowment affiliation. It is a full-ride scholarship covering tuition, room, board, and all fees, renewable for four years (eight semesters), and goes to roughly the top 1 to 2 percent of Furman's applicant pool. There's no separate scholarship application — a completed application for admission automatically serves as the scholarship application — submitted by the November 1 priority deadline. Competitive finalists typically have test scores above a 34 ACT or 1500 SAT. Select students are invited in early February to a Scholarship Interview Event held on campus in late March, with recipients notified by mail; scholars also gain access to Furman's Riley Institute programming and its broader Community of Scholars.
