Any accredited Rhode Island high school may nominate one graduating senior a year as its 'Good Citizen,' based on dependability, leadership, service, and patriotism. Nominees write a timed, two-hour essay on an assigned topic, with entries judged first at the local DAR chapter and then statewide. Two Rhode Island recipients each receive $250, and students who advance to further DAR judging (including national) can win additional awards. No DAR membership is needed to be nominated.
