The USSSA Foundation runs several scholarships for the Secret Service community: a general award (3.0 GPA minimum) for USSSA members and their spouses, children, and grandchildren; the Ron Shurer Memorial, open to current high school applicants and other students, for children of any USSS employee who died while employed; the Julie Cross Memorial (3.0 GPA minimum, two recommendation letters) for women pursuing law enforcement; and a 9/11 Memorial award (3.0 GPA minimum) for children and grandchildren of USSS 9/11 responders. Applications require a transcript, proof of college acceptance or enrollment, and a written or video essay; the foundation has distributed over $1 million across these scholarships over the past 15 years.
DemographicsMost awards require the parent/grandparent to be a USSSA member in good standing for at least 1 year and a minimum 3.0 GPA; the Ron Shurer Memorial does not state a GPA minimum and is open to children of any USSS employee who died in service (USSSA membership not required), and the 9/11 Memorial is for children/grandchildren of USSS 9/11 responders.
Individual award amounts are not published; over $1M has been distributed across all USSSA scholarships over the past 15 years.
