Run through The Miami Foundation since 1978, the CAP Scholarship has awarded more than $15 million to Miami-Dade County Public High School graduates who still have real unmet financial need after federal, state, and institutional aid. To qualify you must have graduated from (or earned a GED after Nov. 1, 1996, following at least two years at) a Miami-Dade County Public High School, be accepted to or enrolled in a post-secondary institution to pursue a first undergraduate degree, and attend full-time. Awards run $500 to $2,500 a year, paid straight to your school and tied to your specific enrollment plans, so they aren't automatically renewed each year (though some students do qualify for multiple years). The essay questions, about your financial circumstances and how you'd cover any remaining gap, are optional.
