The American Society of Human Genetics' Annual DNA Day Essay Contest invites students in grades 9-12 to write a 750-word-or-less essay on a genetics topic tied to National DNA Day. Essays are judged in three rounds by ASHG members on scientific accuracy, evidence, writing quality, and citations, and are submitted through a teacher or school administrator (a parent may submit for a homeschooled student). The top three students nationally win cash prizes, and their teachers may receive a genetics-lab equipment grant.
